My panel focuses on how much smaller our lives became under COVID-19 restrictions, and how we were able to create joy from what we were left with. I reflected these restrictions by only using material I already had, with a particular focus on waste or scrap material. The main motif is a Manchester bee, as although I couldn’t see most of my friends or family, I was lucky enough to move to Manchester to be with my partner over lockdown. We were even able to adopt a rescue dog, Sadie, who is embroidered in the corner of the panel. I found joy in returning to hobbies I have not had time for throughout university, such as cross stitch, and learning new skills including embroidery and using a sewing machine. The majority of the panel is made from fabric left over from these projects.
