My contribution to the Covid Chronicle began life as a response to the unfolding situation in March 2020 when the United Kingdom went into Lockdown. We were told to ‘Stay at Home’, the virus was spreading, and it now had a name, Covid 19. New items of litter were found in the streets, masks and gloves. Rules followed, and the words were incorporated into my ever-growing piece. There had been by now many thousands of deaths, the virus became deadlier with new variants surging forth. Dark days are symbolised by the dark stitched border. Our homes are a place of safety, or should be. Science has been our saviour in the race to develop a vaccine. Brighter days are on the horizon; these are symbolised by the sunny flowers and pathway to freedom once vaccinated. We have lived through very strange times. Covid 19 arrived like a bolt from the blue changing lives and bringing great sorrow to so many in its wake. My stitched response was a way of coping with the worsening news from around the world and the daily death toll. Stitching was my lifeline in these Covid times.
