My quilt square represents the other fight we had in Covid-19 – misinformation, conspiracy theories and fake news. I was inspired by World War II government posters, which encouraged the public to pull together and unite towards a common cause against a common enemy (the virus). The colours of the beams of light in the background are the same used on the Covid-19 vaccination stickers and cards. Centrally, the NHS worker is holding aloft the vaccine showing victory over the virus which lurks in the background. “Three-Part-Slogans” which the Government used, frame the square and form the banner flag. The green triangles at the bottom of the flagpole are from the St John Ambulance shirt I wore when part of the vaccination programme. My square is also a shout-out to the Civil Servants who worked throughout the pandemic keeping the UK running, usually in the background. All materials used were either given to me by family and friends or bought from charity shops (pre-pandemic). Nothing new was purchased for the square and pieces were sewn together. As such, the seams on the NHS worker’s clothes represent the sewing community creating garments for the NHS at the start of the pandemic.
