My panel shows the size of my world in the first year of Covid-19, and my surprising discovery that a small world can be a wonderful one. Even though reduced to just three new continents; our Home, Wimbledon Common, and Zoom, there was still so much going on. Home: Our normally friendly neighbourhood blossomed – with offers of help from people we hardly knew, wonderful veg boxes organised and delivered, flour bought in bulk and shared…and a new street WhatsApp group to keep us all in touch. Wimbledon Common: With only Wimbledon Common for exercise, I started seeking out the smaller paths and noticing the day to day changes in the flora, which prompted me to explore this natural world in more detail - with the help of books like The Hidden Life of Trees, and the Entangled Life (on fungi). Zoom: Even social life could continue thanks to the internet. I could “see” friends and family, meet for Book Group, and keep my u3a Science, Creative Textile and French groups together.
