I’m grateful for the opportunity to stitch my reflections on living through this weird period of Covid. During lockdown our widowed daughter and her two small children were living with us and we all had to work together with childcare while she worked, foraging for basic food items missing from the shops, and coping when we all caught Covid at the same time. When schools closed we took on home-schooling our grandson and all used different strategies to maintain our equilibrium. My 90-year-old mother in New Zealand became very ill and due to their local restrictions I was unable to fly over to be with her to hold her hand or to attend her funeral when she died. Joyfully we welcomed a new grandchild, and we all learned to appreciate the small things in life, the times we could get together as a family, walks on the Common, gardening, reading and stitching. When I began this piece life was still a bit dark, but gradually things became brighter and by the time I was adding the border I was ready to work with more vibrant colours.
