I am primarily an amateur patchwork quilt maker. Sewing in lockdown kept me sane and gave me a reason to stay at home. My panel was inspired by a postcard from my collection. It shows a girl with a long blonde plait and an old lady about to cut it off with a pair of scissors, because it is an illustration from a Brothers Grimm story it has a slightly sinister feel. I started by sketching my design and it took weeks to find the final version. I would leave it for a few days and then look at it again with fresh eyes. The centre applique is made from scraps of silk and cotton with embroidery thread, the first paler background was white but I dyed it with tea, I drunk so much more tea than normal in lockdown. The three hexagons in each corner are the colours of the four seasons and recognise the fact I was quilting in every season. The outer border was left over from an orange and purple quilt which in the end turned out to be my favourite quilt of the year.
