I wanted to create a panel for The Covid Chronicle to commemorate my own experience during the Covid pandemic and to contribute towards a collective artwork to mark this moment in history. Each part of my panel has meaning behind it. The circle is re-used cotton fabric dyed using rusted beer bottle tops - which have created small circles. The little sequins are made by recycling old crisp packets. Both are a representation of the focus we put on the food and drink that we consumed. The words and hanging threads represent my unravelling mind during lockdown.
It felt like a difficult time and I found myself consumed by my worries. The black stitched shapes on the denim represent the virus, which contrast with the white leaves symbolising growth, future and moving forward. Creating the panel was extremely helpful as it allowed me to process my thoughts and get them out into the open – very important at a time when face to face communication was not always possible.
