Dymphy Beniers - Netherlands
Netherlands
When I was embroidering this word-pattern in a spiral, I decided to let it participate in ‘The Covid Chronicle’ project. The spiral represents the ups and downs during the pandemic. The closed circle, in which this spiral is placed, stands for the enclosed situation. The vast emptiness that surrounds the circle represents the space and time that people had (apart from those who work in care and healthcare) and invites you to fill it up with the attached needle and thread. The new words, brought by this pandemic have astonished or amused me, I will explain them as follows: INTELLEGENT LOCKDOWN: Our government had decided to name an ordinary lockdown “intelligent”..... NEW NORMAL: Although citizens had to adjust, in each and every way as we never have never had to before, our government named this bizarre situation 'new normal’. CURFEW DOG: Some people got themselves a dog in order to skip the curfew, because in The Netherlands you were still allowed to walk your dog during the curfew. PILE QUARANTINE: Children from divorced parents had to stay in quarantine in one family, and hopped into the next quarantine when they arrived at the next infected family.
