I created this panel to celebrate the bond between my two sons. As a teacher I found lockdown stressful, relentless, never-ending. Like many parents, we tried to juggle the demands of our jobs whilst attempting to homeschool our kids. At the same time trying to maintain calm and positivity in what had become a strange world for them. There were days when I was stuck at my desk attempting to navigate my way through delivering live lessons, unable to support my own children with their learning. The guilt I felt was immense.
My children have always been close but during this time their relationship blossomed. I am completely in awe of their resilience, friendship and positivity. They showed such kindness towards each other during a time that I personally found very difficult, illustrated in the frayed edge at the bottom of the panel. Long walks through overgrown paths were the norm, hence the wild flowers. Hugs were, and still are, plentiful.
Hidden in the writing in bold letters is the word cherished. My 9 year old son drew on the lettering, I stitched over it. He helped come up with the words to describe this moment in time with his brother.
